I've done some work for clients on Wordpress in the past, but I've never really looked at it from scratch and so I thought it would be about time that I did.
This website is hosted by my friend/client Phoenix Web Dev but for my Wordpress project I needed full CPanel access and signed up to Hostzilla which offer Free Cloud Hosting providing 100mb of space, unlimited traffic, unlimited sub-domains and much more.
When I installed WP I thought that I may as well make a niche website. I decided to keep the default Twenty Ten template and make my own changes. Now, I'm also pretty new to CSS and at times I thought I was possibly punching above my weight, but their support forums as well as quick Google searches proved invaluable.
To try and make a small amount of money through the site, I signed up to Google Adsense to get some adverts on the site and Amazon Associates so that I could have store built in to the site.
To keep the site up to date with the latest information, I decide to cheat and embed RSS feeds into the site using a great free plugin called WP Rss poster. I've not provided a link as for some reason they don't seem to have it on their website.
I still need to make adjustments until I'm a bit more satisfied with the site but a problem I have now is that when I try to change some CSS it's not saving.
It turns out that I should make a 'child' of the template before making changes on this particular theme. Unfortunately, I don't really have the time to do that right now!
Other adjustments I need to make is to make sure the domain name doesn't change to my sub-domain name when users go to the site and the big thing to do is sort out SEO.
I'm not big in the knowledge of SEO but luckily, this is just an experiment anyway.
